I introduced the new theme to the main site just a few moments ago. It is something that I have worked on for the past week or two (little bits here and there). This theme is based on FriendsElectric which is available for download off the Drupal main site. There are still a few tweaks I plan on making, but for the most part it is ready to roll.

Another milestone for this site. It appears I went live with muddylaces.ca 2 years ago today.

Hurray for me.

It has been a fun side project. I am definitely diggin the This Day In block that I implemented after seeing something similar on coremans site. The biggest thing I want from this site is to make sure I don’t forget stuff. This allows me to quickly and easily see the things I recorded.

I am just about to undergo an upgrade here on muddylaces. Drupal just release version 4.6. Their upgrade instructions are making me wonder if I really want to upgrade. It is not so much an upgrade of the software as it is a complete redo. Files have been replaced and moved, so many things won’t work properly. They recommend backing up (always a good idea), the completely removing the old code, replacing it with the new stuff. Gah. Lots of work. Will tackle later I think.

I did upgrade Gallery to version 1.5 yesterday. That one was super simple, except that somehow my css got lost. Fortunately that was easy enough to recover.

Tonight I implemented a new block of functionality for muddylaces. Much like coreman.com I now have a block that will provide a link to previous years posts for this day. This will only be shown when there is a post to be displayed. It was a fun little exercise. My implementation isn’t the most efficient, but it works for now. If I had a lot more traffic, I would have to change things a little.

I put back my half-broken homegrown theme. The fancy one just wasn’t me. That and I could not get used to the navigation being on the right. I much prefer it on the right.

More website maintenance this weekend. Another upgrade to Gallery was released recently. Turns out their last patch didn’t actually fix their problem.

I also found some code to implement a different version of the recent comments block. I took that code, and tweaked it a bit to suit my output, and blam, a nice new Latest Comments block, served up the way I like it.

Did a little regular maintenance of the website today. Quick upgrade from the Gallery folks to the latest service release, and also a little upgrade to Drupal too. Gallery is now v1.4.4-pl5 and Drupal 4.5.2.

Nice and painless, just the way I like my software upgrades to go!

I’ve had to disable anonymous commenting for a bit. I was getting large amounts of spam comments, and it was taking me forever to delete them from the approval queue. All you Acno’s types will have to login or register now.

I may return to anonymous commenting in a week or so and see what happens, but for now you will have to login or register to leave a comment.
