Pristine Film

St Ann's Academy gate

The photo club has now switched to Wednesday evenings! I am pretty happy about this. It is much more enjoyable for me to get out during the evening and shoot pics rather than on a weekend morning.

This past Wednesday was our latest meeting, and the location was St Ann’s Academy. The grounds there provide an excellent backdrop for photography. The buildings are pristine, and we had an awesome blue sky overhead for some dramatic shots.

I haven’t developed my film yet, but here are my digital pics.

Blue Texture

Saturday was the Photo Club Meeting at Sir James Douglas school here in Victoria, BC. What an amazing day! Sunny, warm, blue skies. Simply awesome. The school has had some modern renovations done to it, and is quite an attractive building. Lots of interesting lines, repeating patterns, and good texture made for a fun shoot. I haven’t developed my prints yet, but here are my digital shots.

Firehall Snap

firetruck from Hall 2 Victoria BC

My pics are up from today’s firehall shoot. Cassandra had set up the shoot for us, but when we arrived, we found out that Cassandra’s friend hadn’t told the other guys about us coming. To top that, they had drills the had to attend, so we only had about 15 minutes to shoot! I decided I was just going snap away at anything that struck my fancy. Since I would be shooting so much, I stuck with my digital camera. In the end it was very enjoyable, and I got to talk with a couple of the firemen.

Also, my pics from the night shoot in China Town are up too.

Release Guns

it was a blast

Yesterday the Photo Club headed out to Fort Rodd Hill for our photo shoot. What a wicked place! There are all sorts of building, bunkers, guns, and exhibits. The picture opportunities are endless.

When we first arrived, it started to rain, and I got a little discouraged. I went into one of the structures, and by the time I came out, the rain had stopped.

I shot most of a roll on my Yashica, and lots of the pictures turned out awesome. I even did a couple “bulb” shots. The bulb setting on a camera is where as long as you hold the shutter release down, the shutter stays open. On my Yashica the longest exposure is 1 second, and anything longer than that you have to know how long the exposure should be and use the bulb setting. A couple of my “bulb” shots turned out great. I hope to scan them tonight and put them up.

Sniffing Reflections

wicked reflections

This morning my (limited) photo club headed to Craigflower Park in Victoria B.C. This was an excellent place to shoot. The smooth water close by lent itself to some wonderful reflections, if you could get your timing right. I say if because there was lots of people out! Cars in the background, street lights, canoes, people walking, and dogs sniffing. There was a lot of standing around to get the right shot. It was fun though.

Underneath the Craigflower bridge was pretty freaky. The bridge makes scary noises as the traffic passes by literally inches over your head. Very exciting!

Here are my pics.

Stinky Nature

creepy fish

This past Saturday at Goldstream was my latest photo club photo shoot. In a word: stinky. 🙂

It was actually quite fun. Shooting nature shots is a little more difficult than in the past. There just is less interesting stuff out right now. Nature is hiding in its desaturated state right now.

Anyway, I still found quite a few good shots to take, and had lots of fun. My new camera is working out quite nicely. I think that even in it’s (so far) limited use, I have learned a lot, and reinforced much of what I have learned.

Here are my shots.

Breezy Film

can't keep me here

Willows beach was my photo clubs latest shoot. It was a crisp cool breezy fall day, but the sun was out. There were kids and parents all over the place, and lots of people walking dogs too! Perfect picture taking environment.

I had both my cameras Saturday, but most of my shooting was done on my Yashica.

After everyone met up, we ended up walking towards the Oak Bay marina. This was a direction I had never headed while at Willows, so it was very interesting. I found lots of neat things to shoot, and now I must get some film developed, something I haven’t done in over a year I think.

Here are my digital pics.
