Moronus Waiting

Bike to work week – Day 1 part Deux

cross posted to the Moron Control Board

As I was going home, the morons decided to come out of the woodwork. It was crazy downtown, and with the construction going on, drivers were getting frazzled.

I got through the tough part just fine, but when I was close to home, I came across him: Driverus Moronus.

I was riding along a 4 lane road, and this person passes me in the left lane. They signal, then move over to the right lane. They leave the signal on, and start slowing down. I start to slow because I can tell doofus in front of me wants to turn.

Suddenly I realize that he isn’t slowing, he is stopping! I slam on my brakes, and come to a stop right behind him. And he stays there waiting. I stare at the guy through the rear window, and he is watching me waiting for me to pass him on the right?!?!!

That is correct folks. This Driverus Moronus passes me, pulls in front of me wanting to turn right then wants me to pass him on the right. I don’t think so. In not so kind hand gestures I tell him to go ahead.

Why would someone do that to a cyclist? They wouldn’t think of doing that to a tractor trailer. They wouldn’t think of doing that to a pickup. They wouldn’t think of doing that to a tractor car, and they wouldn’t think of doing that to a motorcycle. Or would they …

A Night of Improv

It was hilarious. Sue and I went a year ago, and it was pretty funny. Those seats were up quite high on the balcony.

This show was completely different. We were very close to the stage, and we could see every facial expression. Their skits were funny. They played some of the same games that they do on Who’s Line, but being in the large crowd, the laughter was contagious, and everything was way more funny than the last show we saw.

With it being the late show I was wondering how the show would turn out. Either the first show would be a good warmup, or it would tire them out. I would go with the warmup route.

One bad side was that some of the skits went on too long. On tv they can edit out parts of skits, and generally shorten things up if needed. Can’t really do that with a live show. You could tell that a couple skits they just wanted to end, but couldn’t get the ending in there. The worst was the Improv Jeopardy. It started off really funny, but went on too long. Then there was an improved song that they just coundn’t end. Don’t get me wrong, it was still hilarious, but it just felt like it dragged on.

Another negative was the length. In total the show was 1.5 hours long ( a good length), but it seemed like 20 minutes. It just went by so quickly! 😀

Sue, kaptaink, and myself were kept in stitches for most of the show, and Greg Proops’ opening monologue was quite funny. There is something about a show like that, that is best seen live. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Bike to work week – Day 1

Ugh.

I felt horrible when I woke up this morning. I feel like I am coming down with a cold, I was supremely tired (the result of a reall bad sleep), and today is Monday (I hate Monday’s).

I dragged my sorry butt out of bed, showered, got ready, then as I was about to leave, I noticed it was raining. :grr:

I got changed, jumped on the bike and headed to work. Nothing too eventful on the ride, except I almost schmucked a pedestrian, and it would have been my fault. I was on the sidewalk when the road dipped under a train overpass. The road is a little sketchy when cars are zipping by, hence why I was on the sidewalk. I jumped off in time though.

Time to work: 14:30

Improv Time

this strikes me as funny

Wooppee! As a gift to Sue for her birthday, I got her a ticket to go see A Night of Improv at the Royal Theatre.

When I originally went to get the tickets, the lady asked me if it was important I get seats for the show. I asked why, and she mentioned that if I waited a couple more days, more seats were going to go on sale because they had put on a second show! 😀

I waited the extra couple days, and scored 5th row seats, centre stage. 8)

Tonight kaptaink, Sue, and myself will have a great time watching a large portion of the cast from Who’s Line Is It Anyway perform. I am really looking forward to it!

Tacky Recreations

my ride

Today was another spectacular day of riding out at the dump. Myself, Darryll, Sean, Shane, Art, Yoshi, and Abby hit the trails for an awesome tour of the dump.

Yoshi was revved to get out there, so that was great. We hit up Inventive, then up to C-Section, up the Switchbacks, played on the log for a bit, then continued on up to Twister. After twisting around a bit, a few of us hit the Dirt Falls, then we zipped over to Lumpy Pants.

Shaners was going to do the drop on the trail, so I pulled out the camera to get an action shot. While I was waiting for Shane to get setup again, I noticed Yoshi was acting very strange again. If you remember from last time Yoshi took off on me, and got lost.

There is something about that section of trail that he doesn’t like. Maybe it smells funny to him, maybe there it is haunted, I don’t know. I told the guys to take as long as they wanted, and I took Yoshi to the end of the trail, and waited for them. Yoshi was fine there, so I am still not sure what he doesn’t like there.

We then headed down to Who’s Yer Daddy, then zipped down to Skull and back to the cars.

Wicked ride. The trails were very tacky, and there wasn’t any dust yet. I am sure that in a few weeks it will be a horrible dust bowl, so I will enjoy now while I can!

Also, there weren’t any recreations of last weeks crash, and that made me happy. 😉

We stopped off for coffee afterwards, which for me was very enjoyable. I have one more post to do, then I am off to play Downhill Domination.

Breakfast Shopping

Yesterday was a grand day. After waking up, and opening a couple presents, I made breakfast for Sue (with a little help from her). Home made Eggs Benedict. Yum.

Then it was out to Elk Lake for a field walk with Yoshi.

Yoshi and Sue

After that Sue went shopping with some friends.

Lastly we went to kaptaink’s shak for some sushi, cake, and hockey (too bad Flames!).

It was a great day. I hope you enjoyed it Sue!

Destination Slammed

Sean looks like I feel

Sean looks like I felt in this picture. I awoke rather late, and had to rush a little to get ready for the ride. I was late picking up Sean, and that kind of set the tone for my ride. I was beat, had little energy, and was a little hungover. Not a good combo when going mountain biking. Oh well, I made the most of it.

The group consisted of myself and Yoshi, Sean, and Darryll. We got warmed up and headed into the trails. We took a leisurely ride up the hills, and stopped lots to rest. We never really had a destination in mind, so we chose to head up to Snake and Ladders. It is always a fun trail to head to.

Nearing C-Section we ran into Mike, so we stopped and talked for a little bit, then continued on our way. At the bottom of the switchbacks we took a nice lenghty rest, and Yoshi played with sticks, and jumped through the ferns.

We played on the log ride at the top of the Switchbacks. I like the log ride a lot. It is fun, gives a great feeling when you ride the entire length, but is safe since it is only a few inches off the ground. That is also the problem with it. With it so close tothe ground, it is too easy to just give up on an attempt, and jump off the side. I rode the entire length a couple times, so I started trying to ride it from the skinny end to the fatter end. I managed to do that, so I stopped while I was ahead!

On the way up to Snakes and Ladders my chain shiffted off the top cog, and into the spokes, so we had to take a few minutes to fix that (thanks Darryll). Once headed down though, the trail rocked! Instead of taking Shars choice we decided to go a different route. I was in the lead, and taking this once downhill right hander with some speed.

All too quickly, my front tire washed out, and my bars spun to the right. The tire was perpendicular to the direction I was travelling. That is never a good thing. I am not sure what happened next (I think the tire caught solid ground again), but I was pitched up and over my bike, and fell a few feet to the rocks below. I landed sort of on my back, and on my side. Armour is a great thing, ESPECIALLY when you are falling, and realize your bike is going to land on your head! I got my arm up in time to protect my face, but my bike slammed into my helmet putting a couple dents in the styrofoam, and cracking the visor. No worse for wear I took a couple minutes to gather myself, realign my bars, shifter, and brake lever, then we continued on our ride. It happened quite quickly, but I can remember it all.

Anywho, we got back to the vehicles, got ungeared, loaded the bikes, and came home. I still feel the hangover a little, but I am certainly glad I got out for a ride, and Yoshi really appreciated being out in the woods! He has slept all afternoon.
