Shotgun Cigarette

Last night while walking Yoshi at the park, I was reminded of the really windy walk last week. Then I remembered a strange event that occurred during that walk.

After we left the park, we saw a large line of cars making their way to the dog park. I knew their destination since every single one of the half dozen or so vehicles, had a dog of some sort riding shotgun. It was quite the sight. We continued on, and when Yoshi and I were only a half block from home the strange event occured. During one particularly strong gust I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a strange orange blob, bouncing down the road. I took a closer look. I was really curious, what was thing bright object? As I bent over to examine it, I realized I was staring at a lit cigarette butt.

Just then another gust began to send the butt flying again, so I quickly stomped on it to put it out. Bizzare.

I couldn’t help but think back to the summer and all the forrest fires that BC had. I also remembered Coreman’s post about a moron who carelessly discarded his cigarette during the height of the fire season. Morons abound.

Garbage Fluid

2 truck related items this morning.

The first item shouldn’t need to be voiced, but I will say them anyway. The bed of my truck is not a garbage can! Numerous times I have parked my truck somewhere, only to return and find someone’s garbage tossed into the back. Beer cans, pop bottles, gum wrappers, and empty drinking cups are only a few examples. Are you really that lazy? 99% of the garbage found has come from when I am parked downtown. This means that the dumper is pretty close to a garbage can. It can’t be that much of a hardship to carry your refuse another block or two is it? Frustrating.

The other item, is that while returning from yesterdays boarding trip, I had a weird sensation at one point. I sensed something was up with my truck, so I scanned the dash board to see what was wrong. No red lights, or warnings (except the low washer fluid), and the temp and oil pressure were fine. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw it. The odometer read 100000! Weird. It was pretty cool to see it at exactly one hundred grand, but the circumstances were a little odd. One 123 km’s more, and I will have driven the truck 100000 kms myself. Not bad for a 98. Oh, and I booked it in for its next servicing (not that you care).

Goofy Powder

Shane and Sean

An early morning led to a spectacular day. Spectacular in the fact that I had a great time. Myself, Sean, and Shane went snowboarding today, and it was my first time this season. What a way for me to start the season.

wind blown flags

Let’s start with the pre game show. I managed to pick up Sean and Shane on time, so we were able to leave Victoria on time. The drive to the mountain literally sped by. On the hill while gearing up I could tell that the snow was in great condition. Thursday night there was a 55 cm dump, then a smaller dump Friday night. It was also cold, colder than I was expecting. Combine these two conditions, and you get wicked powder!

snow on my board

Yep, the quest for the day was untracked powder. It was delicious, and I consumed all I could. While Sean was taking a break, Shane and I hit a few tree runs. More powder. Along the sides of the groomed was more untracked powder. It was amazing.

The weather was a little foggy at times, but it was always clear at the bottom. The wind kicked up a couple times too, so that added to the chilliness.

shane fixing his board

I felt pretty good all day, but my right foot was always getting sore on the lift up. I ride goofy foot, so maybe the weight of the board was causing it, I am not sure. I also think I want to buy some better bindings. The straps on mine would loosen part of the way down the run. Take out the equipment factor, and I was very happy with the day.

All in all it was a long day (left Victoria at 5:45 am, and got home 7:00 pm), but it was most definitely a fun road trip.

Wireless Documentation

I returned the Bluetooth adapter I bought the other day. It was some cool technology, and it was kind of neat that I could hotsync without using the cradle, but I couldn’y get any range out of it.

I have no other wireless devices, yet the Bluetooth adapter could not reach the 15 ft or so through one wall to the living room. That meant that I would only be able to use it in the computer room, which was pointless since I might as well just use the cradle. Also hotsyncing over Bluetooth was noticeably slower than syncing with the cradle.

Surfing the net through Bluetooth was cool, and I must admit that my Tungsten T3 has a gorgeous screen (the graphics downloaded looked amazing), but again it was rather slow. I would rather walk to the computer and load the web page.

Anyway it was fun to play with. I understand better why Bluetooth hasn’t taken off the way people would like. The current implementation was a pain in the butt to figure out, and the Palm documentation was next to nothing. Since it was so complicated, when it didn’t work, I had to try and figure it out myself. That took a while, and was very frustrating (none of the setup was very intuitive, something wireless technologies need to be, for people to find them useful).

Anyway, fun experiment. Back to being wired.

Pounding Breakwater

wind blown water

I took Yoshi for a quick walk after work tonight. Stormy! The wind has been pounding Victoria today, and got even more fierce when the sun started to go down. Yoshi’s ears were flapping all about 🙂

water crashing on the rocks

The cool thing about storms that last is that the parks can get some wicked waves. Tonight the waves crashing onto the breakwater were sending spray right over the breakwater! I had never seen that at the park before. Very cool.

I am a wimp though, and took refuge in the trails. It was only supposed to be a quick walk anyway, but it was fun. I love windy, stormy weather.

Inconsequential Quality

altered wooden box

*sigh* I just got back from Tim Hortons. All I wanted was a Canadian Maple donut, and a cup of coffee. I went with a couple people from work, and while the lady was getting my donuts, I turned to talk with Cliff and Noah.

When we got back to the office I discovered the lady had grabbed a Maple Dip, and not the Canadian Maple I had been expecting.

It really is inconsequential in the grand scheme, but I had been relishing the thought of this donut the walk back to the office. I had built it up in my mind.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a shift in the donut quality at Tim Hortons?
