Stuff relating to Yoshi.
Yoshi Years
Antsy Park
I took my camera in hopes that I would be able to get a couple shots off, and I was not disappointed.
We ran into another pointer there named Starbuck. Very handsome, and very similar to Yoshi.
Spring has definitely hit. Most of the park looks incredibly brown still, but once you look a little closer you can see the buds on the trees and on the blackberry vines.
Someone was apparently trying to feed the birds. Seems like an odd thing to do in an off leash dog park.
The sun was out, and there wasn’t much of a breeze. This made for a very enjoyable time for me. Yoshi behaved himself quite well too, which allowed me ample opportunity to take pictures.
Ogden Ferry
Yoshi and I did the tour of the park before being able to see the new ship. Meh, it looks like a ferry. Perhaps the inside is a little nicer. They are a welcome addition to the fleet though, since I know the Nanaimo, and Victoria runs are extremely busy. Being able to move more cars and people in the same amount of time is going to be great. I hope that they have a nice area on the car deck for pets, and I really hope they have somewhere to lock up bikes, not that I plan to walk on with my bike any time soon.
It was a nice walk, Yoshi had a great romp, and I got to take some pictures.
Swampy Forgotten
I took Yoshi out for a nice walk yesterday. We ended up at Colquitz river park. It is a nice small park that I quite enjoy. The terrain is pretty easy, but there are several micro environments that are quite different. There is a swampy river estuary, a dense forested area, a wide open field, some scrub brush, and even a weird area filled with tiny trees that Yoshi loves to run through.
The grasses are dried out now, and rustle in the wind. I love their chaotic, yet repetitive patterns. From far away large bunches will sway back and forth, but up close they are such a jumble of growth.
The light was a bit weird in the forested area. It isn’t a thick canopy but it still filtered out the light making it seem darker than it really was. The overcast sky meant there was a nice even light on the undergrowth, which did help me out a bit.
Nearing the end of the walk we came across a beagle that was on leash. Yoshi went and said hi, then trotted off into the scrub chasing imaginary birds or something. The beagle sat down and looked toward where Yoshi had disappeared. The forlorn look on the face of this dog will not soon be forgotten.
Cold Butt
Frozen Fern
At one point he needed a drink, and had to crunch through the ice to get to the water. He was a little confused by that. I can’t imagine how cold the water must have felt, but there he was standing in it drinking!
The overcast sky ensured that the forest was a surreal green. I found this one old tree that was covered in moss and ferns. Very cool. I was on a timetable though, so I didn’t hang around too long taking pictures. We had a birthday party to get to!
The walk wasn’t as long as Yoshi needed, but it did the trick. Today I hope to get him out again.
Determined Soaking
Today Yoshi needed a big run, and I was determined to make sure he got it. Unfortunately for me it was raining. The closer we got to the park, the harder it rained. I knew I would be getting quite wet on this walk.
We passed this tree a couple times. Each year someone (or some people) decorate a few trees at Elk Lake, and it always makes me smile when I find them.
Yoshi ran, and ran, and ran. Whenever runners were coming our way I would call him, and he would gallop back to my side and wait until I released him. Such a good pooch.
An hour after leaving the warmth of the truck, we returned. I was quite wet, but Yoshi was soaking wet, and covered in mud. After starting the truck I towelled him down, the stripped out of my soaked jacket. I was cold, wet, tired, and worst of all, hungry! I stopped at Starbucks on the way home for a snack and a hot coffee, then it was time to head home for lunch.
Since we have been home, Yoshi looks very contented sleeping all curled up on his bed. Such a good dog …. when he is sufficiently exercised!
Strangely Snapped
Yesterday Sox’s dad was in town, and we did a dog walk with his dog as well. Yoshi was acting very strangely, and I ended up having to break off from the group, and walk Yoshi by himself. I had my camera with me, so I snapped a few shots along the way.
The rest of the pics are here.
Snow Nibbles
Snow day! First snow of the year. I managed to sneak in a walk with Yoshi at the park before any errands needed to be done. It was nice. There were lots of other people out, and lots of other dogs too. The weather was actually nice out. It was nippy, but not too cold, and the wind hadn’t picked up yet.
Yoshi loves snow too. It wasn’t deep enough for him to do his high speed run and snow scoop, but he did stop to take a few nibbles of the white stuff.
