Yoshi Racers

This was my weekend for walking Yoshi. It wasn’t planned in any real sort, but I was the one who was doing the errands, and had the time for Yoshi.

Poor dog. He is definitely getting shafted when it comes to exercise.

Yesterday he and I ended up at Thetis. Bad day to go to Thetis. There was a running race on, so we had to park in the main lot with all the runners. It was mayhem. Thankfully the race didn’t start for a while, so that allowed Yoshi and I to get our walk in without having to dodge racers.

Today we headed to Colquitz Park. There were lots of other doggies there, and we had a great time. Yoshi ran around quite a bit, but a couple times I had to call him to get him to follow. Our dog walker has been having some problems with Yoshi doing this too. More on that at a later date.

Both walks were pretty good from my perspective, and I think Yoshi enjoyed them. He always romps around in the bush chasing things, and having fun. I love to see his tongue hanging out and the ears flapping around. I can tell he is having fun then.

Thetis pictures and Colquitz pictures are available.

Romp Silent

Another walk for Yoshi today. He is one lucky dog.

Sox and I cleaned up the basement this morning then it was all attention on Yoshi. We took him to Elk Lake today for a field walk. He always loves a good romp in the tall grass.

Today was no exception, and he returned to us soaking wet. Of course we had forgotten to take a towel so that meant he had to shiver himself warm. Sorry Yoshi.

At the halfway point we stopped for a break and were talking when I spotted a magnificent hawk perched at the very top of the tree next to us. It was huge. We tried to get a little closer to take a better look, but of course Yoshi scared it and the hawk flew to another tree. It was still close to us, and it eventually decided that the dog roaming on the ground 40 feet below was too much and flew off for good. It was completely silent. Very cool.

Sox also spotted this beetle in the grass. They can move very quickly!

Favorite Coffee

A walk at Thetis is one of Yoshi’s favorite past times. Yesterday Sox and I got to walk Yoshi together, which is something we haven’t done in quite a while. There was a threat of rain in the clouds, but with our coffee in hand we kept warm. Yoshi kept warm by running about, exploring, and sniffing.

There was no wind so the lake was calm as can be. It was surprising the number of people we came across, just out for a walk. Any weather can be walking weather.

Apparently any weather can also be swimming weather. For a dog at least.

View Distinct

Sox, Sprout, and I took Yoshi for a walk at Island View beach today. It was chilly at first, but it warmed up when the sun started to break through the clouds.

Sprout had a great time walking by himself.

He also allowed us to carry him a little bit.

It wasn’t the most gorgeous day out there, but I found quite a bit to take pictures of.

If you have noticed a distinct lack of Yoshi pictures, well, I wasn’t able to get any. He was running around most of the time. He didn’t get a walk yesterday, and more than made up for it today. Lots of fun.

There are a few more pictures here.

Spear Grass Proposition

I was greeted as I walked in the front door today, not by Yoshi, but by a note from our dog walker saying she had taken him to the vet. He had gotten some spear grass into his ear.

Spear grass is dangerous since the barbed seeds can burrow into the skin, and become infected, or even end up in the bloodstream. If they migrate to the lungs, or other organs, this can kill a pet. Besides the danger, it is also a very expensive proposition to get the grass barbs removed.

After a quick panic I saw there was a voice message, and it was the vet clinic calling to say Yoshi was fine, and that the 2 barbs had been removed without any problems. He didn’t even need to be sedated.

Sox retrieved him, and learned that our dog walker had him at Macaulay Point Park, and after running through some grass started shaking his head a lot. She checked him over, saw the grass in his ear canal, and took him to the vet. Our dog walker is awesome! It is attention like this that makes us grateful to have her. Every day in the summer she checks him for spear grass and tics.

No worse for the wear, Yoshi was happy to eat dinner when he got home. We got off lucky too.

Wammy Combo

Wednesday night’s arrival home was interesting. It was a double whammy from the Yoshi and Aphro.

I noticed the door to the downstairs wasn’t propped open like it normally is. Yoshi could have done this, or maybe Sox or I forgot to set it before leaving.

As I went to go check on the cat, I noticed the gate to upstairs was pushed open. Great. The first thing I noticed was that Yoshi had been sleeping on the futon which has just been furnished with clean sheets for a house guest set to arrive on Thursday. Argh. That dog. Easy to fix, but is still a pain to clean the sheets again.

I then noticed Yoshi had been in Sprouts room. A plastic bowl and lid combo that Sprout had been playing with had been chewed up. Yoshi also chewed the corner of one of Sprouts books too. That dog!

I then followed up with Aphro, and found she had peed on some of my riding clothes that I had planned to use the next day. 2 loads of laundry now. Anybody interested in a neurotic dog and a skittish cat?
